On Tuesday, September 13th, Dr. Paul Lajos was the distinguished guest on the HELLAS FM.

Initially, Dr. Lajos spoke about "Diabetic Foot Ulcers".  Ulcers on the sole of the foot can be serious, but even more so for diabetics, as diabetes can
cause loss of sensation on the nerve endings.  This is especially dangerous, especially if the person with diabetic neuropathy steps on a nail or a
shard of glass.  The sores may become infected, leading to gangrene or amputation.
The doctor advised the audience to check their feet often and to visit their podiatrist on a regular basis.
In the second part of the medical show, Dr. Lajos spoke about varicose veins, bulging veins above the surface of the skin on the legs.
The doctor discussed the causes, such as damage to the valve in the vein or because of standing for long periods of time, but stressed that this
can also be due to an underlying condition.  In closing, the doctor spoke about the various medical and surgical treatments for varicose veins.

Dr. Lajos is Associate Chief of Vascular Surgery at Mount Sinai Queens and Assistant Professor of Surgery and Radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
