Εκλεκτή καλεσμένη στην εκπομπή του Mount Sinai Hospital την Τρίτη, 4 Οκτωβρίου, ήταν η παγκοσμίως διακεκριμένη Dr. Malini Sur.

Η γιατρός επικεντρώθηκε στην γαστρεντερολογική κοιλότητα, συγκεκριμένα στο στομάχι και στο παχύ έντερο/ορθό, και τον καρκίνο των δύο αυτών οργάνων.  Η γιατρός εξήγησε πως ο καρκίνος του στομάχου συνήθως είναι επιθετικός, αφού τα συμπτώματα παρουσιάζονται στις τελευταίες
διαβαθμίσεις, σε αντίθεση με τα συμπτώματα του παχέος εντέρου/ορθού που παρουσιάζονται αρκετά ενωρίς.  Κύριοι παράγοντες και στις δύο παθήσεις είναι το οικογενειακό ιστορικό και η διατροφή.  Κλείνοντας, η γιατρός αναφέρθηκε και στις εξελίξεις και στις καινοτομίες της χειρουργικής θεραπευτικής αγωγής.

Η Dr. Sur είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγήτρια Χειρουργικής, Ανώτερο Τμήμα Χειρουργικής Ογκολογίας, Τμήμα Χειρουργικής, στην Ιατρική Σχολή Άϊκαν του Νοσοκομείου Mount Sinai.

On Tuesday, October 4th, the distinguished guest on the Mount Sinai Medical Show on HELLAS FM was Dr. Malini Sur. The doctor discussed the incidence and prevalence of cancer of the stomach and colorectal cancer. Dr. Sur explained that cancer of the stomach can be aggressive, as it is diagnosed in the later stages, in contrast to colorectal cancer that can be diagnosed in the early stages when the symptoms first present.  The major risk factors for both cancers include a
strong family history and diet.  In closing, Dr. Sur also discussed the advances and innovations regarding the surgical management.

Dr. Sur is Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, Department of Surgery, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Sur is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital and with Mount Sinai Queens.
