Την Τρίτη, 28 Ιουνίου, εκλεκτός καλεσμένος ήταν ο παγκοσμίως διακεκριμένος γιατρός Dr. Ron Shapiro.

Ο Dr. Shapiro επικεντρώθηκε στο πάγκρεας, ένα αδενικό όργανο που παράγει ινσουλίνη και ελέγχει την ποσότητα
γλυκόζης στο αίμα.  Στην συνέχεια της εκπομπής, μίλησε στους ακροατές για την μεταμόσχευση παγκρέατος,
μία επιλογή για τα άτομα που έχουν ανεξέλεγκτη γλυκόζη στο αίμα.  Δυστυχώς, αποκλείονται τα άτομα στα οποία
έχει γίνει διάγνωση καρκίνου στο πάγκρεας.

με τα σήματα ανιχνευτή που ελέγχει την γλυκόζη στο αίμα.

O Dr. Shapiro είναι Διευθυντής Χειρουργικής του Προγράμματος Μεταμόσχευσης Νεφρών και Παγκρέατος στο
Recanati/Miller Transplant Institute, διακεκριμένο κέντρο μεταμοσχεύσεων παγκοσμίως.

On Tuesday, June 28th, Dr. Ron Shapiro was the distinguished guest on HELLAS FM.
The doctor spoke about the pancreas, a glandular organ that produces insulin and controls the levels of sugar in the blood.
In the course of the presentation, the doctor discussed pancreas transplantation in diabetics, an option for those with
uncontrollable diabetes.  Unfortunately, this procedure is not done on patients who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Shapiro also discussed an alternate treatment mode, the insulin pump, a device that mimics the pancreas. 
A glucose sensor sends warnings when the blood glucose is either too high or too low, stimulating the pump to deliver insulin
automatically.

Dr. Shapiro is the Surgical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program at Mount Sinai's
Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute, one of the most comprehensive transplantation centers in the world, with one of the
largest living donor programs in the U.S.

Dr. Shapiro is Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
